Zinc Plated Hexagon Square Head Coach Screw Spike
What is Coach Screw Spike?
Coach screw spikes consist of a head with a square or rectangular section with a round collar as well as a threaded part with a single thread of a considerable height and a considerable pitch.
Coach screw spikes are used to connect steel elements of a track structure with wooden or concrete sleepers. Depending on their type, screw spikes differ in terms of their length, pitch, and thread height; the mandrel diameter of the threaded part; and the dimensions of the collar part. One of the most commonly used types of screw spikes is square head screw spike.
Advantages of Rail Screw Spike/Track Spike
One of the main advantages of screw spikes is their ability to grip the sleeper tightly, reducing the risk of loosening or displacement. They are also relatively easy to install, requiring only a drill to make a hole in the sleeper. Screw spikes are also resistant to corrosion and rust, making them ideal for use in harsh environments. However, one disadvantage of screw spikes is that they can be challenging to remove once they are installed, requiring specialized equipment and tools.
Comparison of Dog Spike and Screw Spike
Δ Shape and Classification
Just look at the appearance of the two different spikes, we can see apparently that dog spike looks like a large nail with a dog lug head, while screw spike is with many screws on the surface of shank. The shape of dog spike is simple, and the classification of screw spike is various and the shape diversified.
Δ Fastening Sleeper
Dog spike is only used in wooden sleepers, nevertheless, screw spike is used on concrete sleepers. With the trend that concrete sleepers more and more widely used in recent railway construction, screw spike is more popularized and the requiring number is increasing.
Δ Fastening power
Screw spike is more tightened than dog spike. The fastening power of screw spike is more than twice of dog spike. In addition, screw spike is usually used with the plastic sleeve.
Δ Inserting Method
In the past times, dog spike is usually driven into the wooden sleeper with a heavy hammer by hand. But now the manual work has been replace by the machine "spike driver". The screw spike is usually fastened to the concrete sleeper through anchoring technology.
Δ Cost of Dog Spike and Screw Spike
The manufacturing cost of screw is higher that of dog spike, because the manufacturing process of screw spike is more complex than dog spike.
