A rail insulator, also known as a railroad insulator, rail insulation, or rail nylon insulator, is positioned between the steel rail and rail fastening clips or clamps. Its purpose is to secure the rails to the sleepers, maintain the rail gauge, and provide electrical insulation for the steel rails, rail clips, and the inside of a concrete sleeper. It is situated either between the rails and elastic rail clips or between the sleeper and the rail gauge apron. For high-speed or heavy-load trains, it is an essential component of rail fastening.
The rail insulator is made by injection molding machine. They're widely used in different railway models of rails such as 115Re, UIC 60kg, 52kg rail, 50R, 60R, 75R, 90R etc. The raw material of rail insulators are PA6 and PA66, that is, nylon with glass filler content ranging from 20% to 35%. The material has the feature of flame retardant, anti-aging and not easy to deform.
The rail insulators are made of nylon 6 or Nylon 66 with glass filler content 20% to 35%, with high performance on usage life and mechanical purpose.
Below are the characteristics of rail spacer:
